Common questions
Things buyers ask first. If yours isn’t here, the next step is a conversation.
What size of business do you work with?
Most engagements sit in the small-to-mid-market range — firms of roughly twenty to five hundred staff, where the technology stack has outgrown what one person can hold in their head, but a full-time CTO would be over-spec. Enterprise engagements happen too, usually on the project & program management side.
How are engagements priced?
Three common shapes — Advisory (hourly), Project (fixed scope), and Fractional CTO (monthly retainer). Pricing is discussed openly on the first call. No decks, no proposals before we understand the work.
Can you work remotely, or do you need to be on-site?
Both. Most advisory and PMO work is remote with periodic on-site meetings. Infrastructure audits, hardware procurement, and implementation oversight usually benefit from on-site days at the start and end of an engagement. Serving the Greater Toronto, Guelph & Waterloo region.
We already have IT staff. Where do you fit?
The CTO seat. Internal IT teams are typically optimised for keeping the business running — tickets, support, day-to-day infrastructure. The CTO role is different: technology strategy, vendor governance, board reporting, risk & investment advice, and translation between business and IT. Most engagements involve partnering with the existing IT lead, not replacing them.
Do you resell hardware or software, or take vendor commissions?
No. SRS IT Consulting is 100% independent and vendor-agnostic — we take no reseller margin and no vendor commissions or kickbacks. We advise on what to buy, write the RFP, evaluate the options, and negotiate the contract on your behalf as your buyer’s advocate. Standalone procurement-advisory engagements are welcome.
You’re an independent practice — what about capacity and continuity?
You work directly with the principal — never handed to a junior or a rotating roster. For delivery, SRS IT assembles and manages a vetted team per engagement: the system integrator, your internal subject-matter experts, and temporary data and migration specialists. You get senior continuity at the top and the right hands underneath — without an agency’s overhead or markup.

Email or LinkedIn — whichever is easier. The first call is free and decides nothing.
